I've used an older gen Automatic in my car for close to 3 years. It's helpful - I appreciate knowing my trips, gas mileage, engine diagnostics, etc. - but because all data was transmitted through my phone, I was able to shut off cellular data for the app and have it only transmit when A) I was on wifi, and B) while my car was off. I really don't have any interested in a constantly-transmitting LTE chip in my car, especially because so many of the features offered in the app are redundant. Why would I need live location tracking when I have the Find My app on my iPhone?
So I want to know if Automatic sells my data to any third parties, or stores it on its servers without encryption. It feels like live location tracking is a user-end "feature" that would mask data collection for another purpose, and I'd like to know if that's happening.
